synopsis

The theatrical adaptation of “Os dizeres do amor,” a chapter from the book E o que é o amor? It is a monologue in which the character goes from the illusion of love to the disillusion of love, evoking Portuguese and Brazilian lyric poets: Adélia Prado, Antonio Barbosa Bacelar, Bocage, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Carlos de Oliveira, Fernando Pessoa, Filomena Cabral, Florbela Espanca, Gonçalves Dias, Luís Vaz de Camões, Manuel Bandeira, Meendinho, Neide Archanjo, Sóror Mariana Alcoforado and Vinicius de Moraes.

The play was commissioned by Nathalia Timberg to Betty Milan, who did the adaptation with the collaboration of the linguist and professor Haquira Osakabe, responsible for research relating to the Portuguese and Brazilian lyrics. The text was performed by the actress in almost every state in Brazil, directed by Wolf Maia and with music by maestro Julio Medaglia, specially composed for the play. Later, a CD of the play was created, sponsored by the Paulista Museum of the University of São Paulo. In 2014 Nathalia Timberg inaugurated the Banco Safra theatre with Paixão [Passion], a play that has been showing for twenty years.
